Tips for Keeping Your Personal Training Clients Motivated

October 10, 2022

It is commonly believed that one must be highly motivated to start seeing results from working out. This means that if someone is not naturally inclined to work out or they do not have a strong desire to get fit, they likely will not see the results they are hoping for.

As a fitness coach, it's your responsibility to keep your clients motivated for them to reach their fitness goals. Continue reading as we discuss some tips on keeping your clients motivated.

Chart Their Progress and Set New Goals

Keeping your clients motivated and engaged in their fitness journey is essential as a fitness trainer. One way to do this is to chart their progress and set new goals with them regularly. This helps keep them accountable and focused on their goals and allows you to see how they are progressing and where you may need to adjust their training program.

When setting new goals with your clients, make them realistic and achievable. This will challenge them and help them continue to see results.

Encourage Them to Mix Up Their Workout Routines

When it comes to working out, one of the worst things you can do is fall into a rut. Not only is it boring, but it can also lead to a fitness plateau, where you no longer see results. As a fitness trainer, it's essential to keep your clients motivated and engaged, and one way to do that is to encourage them to mix up their workout routines.

Here are a few ways to do that:

1. Change up the Exercises

If your client is used to doing the same exercises, switch things up and introduce new ones. This will not only keep things interesting, but it will also help them see results as they'll be using different muscles.

2. Vary the Intensity

If your client is stuck in a workout rut, one way to mix things up is to vary the intensity. For instance, if they're used to jogging at a moderate pace, have them try sprinting for short bursts or add in some hills. Or, if they're used to lifting heavy weights, have them try lighter weights with more reps.

Help Identify Their Motivators

Most people are motivated to work out and stay healthy, whether it's to look good, feel better, have more energy, or improve their overall health. As a fitness trainer, you must help your clients identify their motivators for staying on track with their fitness goals.

One way to do this is to ask them their primary motivation for working out. Once you know what it is, you can help them keep that motivation at the forefront of their minds as they continue their fitness journey.

Celebrate Big and Small Successes

One of the most important aspects of being a successful fitness trainer is knowing how to celebrate big and small successes with your clients. This not only helps to keep them motivated and engaged but also helps to build a strong sense of connection between you and them.

Acknowledge even the most minor successes. Recognizing your clients' seemingly small achievements is essential, as they can often be just as significant as the bigger ones.

Conclusion

As trainers, we must remember the significance of motivation when working with our clients. We must help them find their intrinsic motivation for working out and live a healthy lifestyle. Only when they are genuinely motivated from within will they be able to stick to their program and see results.
